It may be frustrating, but there's a fairly simple solution: love the pairings you love, write about them, blog about them, do graphics, spread your love, make friends with other people who love the same thing, and focus your energy there instead of worrying about what the fandom as a whole is doing. People who love many Teen Wolf pairing are out there, and the more we all love our pairings and spread that love, the better chance we will have of finding each other.

That sounds lovely and sensible but I feel like this fandom, especially the pro-Sterek and anti-Sterek factions, and everyone in between, is going to keep going around in circles in perpetuity.

OP - This is basically what I've been doing lately, haha. I understand that people are going to ship what they ship and like what they like, and I don't begrudge them that. I just find it frustrating when I got into tags or fandom spaces that are supposed to be dedicated to other characters or pairings and find Sterek slowly bleeding its way in and the more OTT Sterek shippers finding their way into non-Sterek conversations and basically talking over everyone. Sterek's not my main ship, but I still like it quite a bit, but I find that kind of behavior kind of rude and frustrating. I know a lot of it is just excitement about the pairing and wanting to share with other people about it, but there is a portion of the Sterek fandom that just needs to learn to tone it down a bit.

TBH, I mostly made this secret because I was frustrated with all of the "OMG BUT WHAT IF THIS MEANS THAT STYDIA WILL BECOME CANON AND NOW STEREK WILL NEVER BE CANON?!" whining filling up the Jackson, Colton, and Teen Wolf tags after we found out Colton was leaving. As someone who'd just found out their favorite character would no longer be on the show, it was pretty frustrating to see people crying about how terrible it was, not because Jackson would be gone, but because it might sink their ship. And then a lot of people who actually spoke up and pointed out that this was kind of inconsiderate behavior got told by the more OTT Sterek shippers that they were being immature or selfish about it. I know that people have different priorities and things they're going to worry about, but it doesn't seem totally uncalled for to ask that they keep that kind of thing in the Sterek tag or in their own journals and not flood the other tags or non-Sterek discussions with it.

I wish it were that easy.

But the people who ship my favourite pairing, well. Some of them are the type of people who claim that people who ship Sterek perpetuate a whole bunch of -isms. And if I click on their blog because they made a funny comment/cute fanart/interesting fic, and I want more, chances are I'm going to be scrolling through pages of bitter, simmering resentment.

It's very tiring. I remember when fandom wasn't soul-draining.

But yes, more people should fandom with love, not hate. I agree with you!

Basically this. I just want to figure out where the people who tread the middle ground and aren't one of the two extremes in fandom are, since I can't seem to find most of them on Tumblr.

*brofist* SOON.

(This is the part where I make a crack about how we're all like Derek, standing in our burnt out, broken little house and eyeing the outside world with distrust, right?)
