It's just fanfic. Breathe.

Da, but.... not really, no. I'm bi and I always feel like people who do this are not-so-secretly the kind of people who don't believe bi "exists". They think of it as a stepping stone to gay, or as a drunk college experiment. I get this kind of reaction a LOT when I tell people I'm bi and it's frustrating when you see this kind of thing in fanfic as well.

You're not alone. Keep fighting it.

-shrugs- This is pretty much how I feel whenever someone handwaves a characters asexuality in fiction as 'they just haven't met the right person!', since I've gotten that reaction most of the times the topic comes up [along with the lame 'So you split to reproduce?' jokes. Though those you can at least have fun with by dead panning back.]

Sadly, it's not going to stop people and people are going to say 'It's just fanfic' or 'You're being too sensitive' if you say anything.

But it's a symptom of people's belief that bisexuality can't really exist and that is problematic, painful, and infuriating for actual bisexuals. The awful part is that a lot of TV shows portray bisexual characters as gay as well.
