Um... might a better approach be to rent the movie and then talk to your kid about why you don't like the joke/bullying is wrong?

I agree.
People can't shield their kids forever. Sooner or later they will come across a joke about bullying and then what? It's better to discuss such topics than to avoid them.

Agreed. I personally don't believe in sheltering or censorship, and I don't see the good it does at all. I mean, OP is the kid's parent so they're free to do as they wish, but I will not be raising my child that way.

Yeah, other words they'll start hearing the jokes in school where everyone is laughing and or giving a silent approval and you won't have any influence over the situation.

I mean, otherwise they're going to know nothing about bullying and be left to come to their own conclusions based on what the 'cool' kids at school are doing.
