Great essays

Hello Fandomsecrets! I'm looking for some good beginner essays on various topics. Sorry for using you as Google, I just couldn't find anything.
The first topic would be for myself, I'm trying to get into US Politics (I'm not from the US myself though), and I have been watching the debates, but I feel like, well, let's just say that the honestly, straight answers and truth spoken overwhelmed me. I'd like to know the "real" pros and cons of both parties, what we could realistically expect from them, the potential of a civil war in about 24 years and so on.

The second is for a good friend of mine - he's not looking down on women or treating us differently or anything, so I was really surprised by this. Basically, he wrote a story about 7 different characters. Only one was a woman, she was married, and cheated on her husband by working as a prostitute. While I consider prostitution a legit job as any other, it bothered me that the only woman in the story was written off as a sex object, and telling him this got the reply of "Don't be such a feminazi". My explanations usually end up all over the place, so just a quick breakthrough of women's representation in media would be amazing. Thank you.

Oooh by the way, I love good essays of any topic! Hit me up!

Well, the problem with the first request is that any analysis of the two parties is in itself somewhat biased and partisan - you can have, I guess, an unbiased analysis of the financial elements of politics, but for the most part, any critique or analysis of the two major political parties is going to be founded on the political understanding of the author. So there's really no one good answer to this - understanding comes from reading, assimilating, and analyzing a variety of perspectives, I think.

One essay I do want to recommend because it's very good and also incredibly relevant is Douglas Hofstadter's "The Paranoid Style In American Politics", which is a very historical analysis of the roots of certain tendencies in American politics. It was written in 1964 but I think it's even more relevant now than it was when it was written, and I think helps in understanding the mindset of many people in American politics.
