Hmmm. I don't know if the Avengers movie would be the best thing to end on. At least, when I watched I was excited at the prospect of seeing these characters and their universe grow and evolve over the next few years. I'm wary of Thor 2 but that's mostly because it sounds like it has waaaaaaay too much going on for one movie (and the first one already suffered from an overstuffed plot), but the rest I'm pretty excited for.

But in general I agree with you, OP. There have been so many shows and books that have continued past what should have been a clear ending point and just become painful to watch. (the Arrested Development renewal, for example, is something I just cannot see working out well. :/ )

This, and it sounds like it's going to be a massive tone shift from Thor. The leaked details, if they don't turn out to be a hoax, make Thor 2 sound like it's going to be on the dark and serious end of the spectrum, whereas Thor, while it had its serious moments, was definitely on the light and fluffy end. Even if I didn't love the fluffiness of Thor, that dramatic of a tone shift is really, really hard to pull off well.
