I'm assuming you're a girl, OP. I'm a female and although I like some girl groups' music, I don't generally get into them the way I get into boy groups. The boys are just funnier and more interesting in my opinion, and that seems to be the majour consensus from girls...but men are less likely to think so. This is just from what I've seen of the kpop fandom.

I would suggest trying female soloists, especially BoA, Ailee, IU, and Lee Hyori. Somehow I find it easier to care about them than girl groups in general.

^ Everything I wanted to say.

funnier? oh please. this is the 'women aren't funny' trope wrapped up in some new packaging.

There is some of that, definitely. However I (as a K-Pop fan who admittedly tends to prefer boy group-based shenangians, much like in many other genres of music) haven't seen nearly as many girl groups/girl group members given the opportunity to make complete fools of themselves at the same level as BAP's reality show.

If there are any, please tell me about them! I love me some public ridiculousness.

It might be less women aren't funny and more women aren't allowed to be funny. As in by the people marketing these pop groups. At least that is what I noticed when I was in the asian pop scene. Boy groups were allowed this image of boyish dorky funny silly rolling around puppies who play pranks on each other; meanwhile girl groups were set up with this far more subdued, demure childish/innocent image without any of the pranking and rolling around.

I mean, it has been a while since I was into the entire thing, maybe shit has changed, but eh.

Thankfully that isn't nearly as much a thing in Korean entertainment at the moment. You still get a bit of that, but there's also things like Immortal Youth with Suzy being ridiculous and adorable while flailing around at household chores.

But there is definitely a different level of band image between girl groups and boy groups as a whole. No one is as successfully bizarre and full of cartoonishness as B1A4, definitely. (Although a lot of their schtick hinges on the weird classist/urban conviction that everyone from a country province is a bumpkin. Which is an entirely gender-neutral concept, I just can't think of any girl groups whose "thing" is that they're all from the country.)

SNSD's pretty well known for being a group of pranksters and girls who aren't afraid to laugh at each other. Watch Hyoyeon and Sunny on Invincible Youth, or SNSD's episode of Intimate Note.

That's exactly what I meant.

And I'm a female k-pop fan who despises most male groups and their fans who are always "OPPAR DIDN'T MEAN IT, GET AWAY FROM HIM, YOU SLUTWHORE!"

I much prefer the female soloists/groups.

Quit making generalizations.

You just generalized male group fans...who are you to tell me not to make generalizations? I'll stand by what I said; thanks though.
