I'm still confused as to why people are so convinced Kris and Lyra are different characters... Lyra is clearly just an updated design of of the female!PC from Crystal. Look at them: Lyra/Kris

No one seems to think the male PC is a new character just because he got an updated outfit and an official name instead of a fan nickname. Is the slightly different hair color and larger stupid hat REALLY indicative of a totally new character?

I know people say that, but I really don't see it. If I were being generous, I'd say that Lyra's design was inspired by Kris's. The only real similarity is... they both have pigtails? Compare with Ethan, who is much more clearly an updated Gold.

Also, this quote from the Lyra article you linked: " Some fans assume that Kris and Lyra are one and the same. Takao Unno revealed in an interview that he designed Lyra from scratch. "

Yeah, I'm gonna call bullshit on that and guess he wanted to pretend he was being more original that he was. They look exactly the same, aside from clothing and hair color. Lyra's a redesign.

Aside from clothing and hair color? That's kind of most of what you have to go on with a Pokémon character. But if we do disregard clothing and hair color, the only thing left to compare is hairstyle, and even that's different. They do both have pigtails, yes, but in very different styles.

Then shall we compare some other characters who have pigtails? Female ace trainers in gen V, belles, preschoolers... All of these have pigtails, but in quite different styles than Lyra and Kris, who both have thin pigtails which flip forward.

I still think Lyra's meant to be a redesign. (Of course, I don't get being emotionally attached to the PC at all. They have literally no personality other than what you ascribe to them while playing.)

I see your point, but I guess I don't think one (vague, imo) hairstyle similarity is enough to qualify a character as a redesign. Can we agree to disagree?

...Dude, the only thing they have in common is PIGTAILS. Everything else is different. That isn't a fucking redesign, that's just happening to have one single physical trait in common. By that logic, Ethan is a redesign of Red because they both have hats and jackets!
