I have an associated peeve; the 'it wasn't really love'. Because apparently people only get to be in love once in their whole life, so whatever they had with their previous (often canon) SO was clearly not love because this new ship IS love.

This makes me rage. It's a fucking ridiculous attitude and it's one thing if it's written by dumbass teens who don't know any better, but adults write this bullshit all the time.

THIS. So much this. It makes me fume so much.

I also hate fics where one half of the pairing is killed off and the other knows s/he will Never Love Again. Maybe they won't, but who knows? Everyone I know who ever lost a spouse before they were very elderly eventually re-married. Even my twice-widowed, 92 year-old great-uncle has a girlfriend. Besides, it's depressing to see characters I like being condemned to a life of insurmountable grief, as if any optimism at all somehow diminishes the relationship with the dead character.

Ha, that's really sweet, but I couldn't help but wonder--can someone who's dating a 92-year-old really be a GIRLfriend? XD We need a term for that kind of later-life dating. Maybe 'lady-friend', heehee

THIS to infinity and beyond.

A lot of people in my main fandom subscribe to a headcanon almost exactly like this for one of my favorite characters in the series, and it is especially aggravating in the case of this particular character not only because of the prevalence of said headcanon within the fandom, but also because he's essentially an immortal being :\
