Yeaaaaah, no. For a lot of people, getting hit back just makes them a lot meaner and filled with blind rage. I still remember back in high school when a fight broke out close to where I was standing . One kid just started punching the other and the kid he was beating up finally managed to get a hit in. The guy totally snapped and started beating the ever living christ out of the kid. Everyone had been standing by in shock since the fight started (it all happened very suddenly), trying to get a teacher's attention. Finally, a few teachers ran to the scene to break it up.

And then there was another time when a guy I vaguely knew of finally smacked a kid who had been picking on him for a while and the guy got revenge by having his friends gang up and beat the shit out of him after school.

Kids are total assholes and a lot of the time hitting them back doesn't make the situation go away at all.
