Teach your kid how, and more importantly, when to throw a decent punch. It worked for me. I never had a bully problem after I left one crumpled on the ground. After that, people came to me with their bully issues, I was able to get most of those resolved without violence.

Fucking this. I had one bully tried to start shit with me when I was a kid. Gave them a bloody nose, and no one ever bothered me after that.

When it gets right down to it, bullies are cowards. If you fight back, suddenly it's not so easy or fun for them anymore and they'll lose interest.

Yeaaaaah, no. For a lot of people, getting hit back just makes them a lot meaner and filled with blind rage. I still remember back in high school when a fight broke out close to where I was standing . One kid just started punching the other and the kid he was beating up finally managed to get a hit in. The guy totally snapped and started beating the ever living christ out of the kid. Everyone had been standing by in shock since the fight started (it all happened very suddenly), trying to get a teacher's attention. Finally, a few teachers ran to the scene to break it up.

And then there was another time when a guy I vaguely knew of finally smacked a kid who had been picking on him for a while and the guy got revenge by having his friends gang up and beat the shit out of him after school.

Kids are total assholes and a lot of the time hitting them back doesn't make the situation go away at all.
