Don't feel bad, OP. I think this happens to a lot more people than you. For example, I feel this way about Coulson from the MCU/The Avengers. There's nothing to dislike about him at all but for me he's just...there. I feel like I'm missing something important, or like everyone else in fandom has some kind of mass telepathy going on that just isn't working on me. :(

don't worry about it, the fandom (especially the tumblr fandom) goes through phases of this; a few months back everyone and their grandma hated jade because she didn't do anything
if you really can't stand her, i'm sure the hype will die down soon and she'll be replaced with nepeta or roxy or someone

this. seriously, i actually didn't like her character because she was just there, not doing much of anything other than having colorful fingerbands and tweeness. Until she lost her dream self, and Cascade that is. Fucking finally some character development, and I actually began to love her.

But it's the bullies who are wrong, not the people who have dissenting opinions. And people shouldn't feel abnormal for not being like everyone else, particularly if "everyone else" behave like jerks.

yeah ik there's nothing wrong with me i just...i think i'm just over sensitive to fitting in with homestuck fandom because i've had such a hard time fitting in it compared to other fandoms...? like i tried to post in its regular thread on a forum i frequent for nearly two months, only to be told finally that i was being ignored for having a dave icon, wtf, and on tumblr it seems like most of the focus is on the trolls, which i have no interest in. and then the human who gets the most attention is the only human i don't care about. i'm just frustrated, i guess.

i think off tumblr there's been a real backlash against the striders, at least for dave. even the forums i know that hate dave think dirk/bro is cool.

mostly it seems to be just a reaction against a popular figure. he has a lot of fans, and especially a lot of the younger fans in the fandom, so he has more "stupid" fans, according to the haters. i was reading a discussion thread once where, after an update, a poster posted a line of dave's they thought was funny and were promptly dogpiled and ridiculed and told that they were just another stupid dave fan who would mindlessly parrot their favorite lines as if everyone else hadn't read the update already. (nevermind that everyone else in the thread was posting + discussing their favorite lines from other characters.)

aside from the fan-related backlash, i've mostly seen it boil down to "he takes up too much screen time from [complainer's favorite troll here]/he's overrated."

Eh, I don't think any Homestuck character is universally liked by the fandom. It's okay. I mean, I don't really like Dave and I haven't been exiled from the fandom because of it

i'm not crazy for her either!! i was at some point, but as the story progressed i lost a lot of that love for her. not for any particular reason, i just stopped liking her so much??

i feel like the homestuck fandom has a lot of people in it who take preference to the female characters, and there's totally nothing wrong with that, but because homestuck is so unique in its abundance of stronger female characters a lot of the fans realise that. i don't really like jade, rose or feferi (and i straight up dislike vriska) and i don't really ~get the love in the sense that i don't relate to it, but i'm not surprised these characters get as much love as they do.

I feel that way about Stiles from Teen Wolf. I mean, I like him just fine; I definitely don't HATE him, but most people in the fandom seem to worship him and Dylan. Most fics become about him in some way, even when they're not Sterek. I only care about him if one my my rarer loved favorite characters is involved, but it's so hard to avoid obsessive stanning of him in the fandom. :(

I kind of assumed the Jade thing was because nobody hates Jade - pretty much every character has extreme haters, but since Jade is, as you say, just kind of there, if you want to express a completely noncontroversial opinion that everybody can chime in on, "I Like Jade" is pretty much your safest bet.

I love Jade, but then I love all the characters whose last name isn't "Ampora" ok to be fair I don't really like Jane either, I think she's boring and she's not like, one of my favorites.

You are entitled to your opinions. Lots of people hate my favorite character, and that's ok (someone even mentioned not liking her on this thread, lol) and decent people won't hate you for not liking Jade. Assholes will be assholes.
