Not OP

I get that it's supposed to symbolize his nickname- the rind for the Sci-Fo, the Male symbol fo the guy- but it does give off this 'Sci-Fi is for men' vibe.

Not OP as well, but I know a lot of people think the male/female Mars/Venus etc etc symbols are outdated in referring to the genders, since they imply genitalia and traditional interpretations of gender.

Mars represents a spear and shield. Venus is a woman's mirror.
So yes on the traditional roles, not so much on the genitalia.
