Do you call the couple you're most obsessed with your OTP, or can your OTP be another couple that you don't really obsess over but which you objectively like even more than the couple you obsess over? I don't know how to properly communicate my love for a particular pairing in my fandom -- I want to call it my OTP, but I feel like that will give the wrong message since most of my fannish participation centers around squeeing about an entirely different couple.

My OTPs are ANYTHING I ship. I also have OTPs for many different fandoms. Some I squee loudly about, others I enjoy privately with smiles and warms and aaaws. Different couples I just ship in different ways.

But they're still OTPs to me

I don't multi-ship often, but any pairing where I don't ship the characters with other people I think of as an OTP. Well...depending on how much I care about them, too. Nate/Elena are my Uncharted OTP, and I also like Chloe/Cutter, but I'm not invested in them in the way I am with Nate/Elena. So...I wouldn't call them an OTP because if it doesn't happen I'll deal.

Not every OTP is one that I'm obsessed with though. And fandom often comes into that for me. If an OTP I have is in a series that has a huge fandom, I'm more likely to dwell on them. If not, if there's no fic or art or discussion I'll probably 'move on' quicker, and therefore spend less time 'obsessing' over them. That doesn't mean I love the pairing less.

Yeah, same here.

I've probably contributed to the watering down of the OTP label by a lot, because I basically apply it to any couple I actually like (and if they're canon couples, that's especially rare!). But I'll say a ship is my OTP pretty much as long as I think they work together and I'm in general support of there being more fic/fanart/canon about them, even if I'm not the one contributing any of it.

My OTP is the couple where I can't stand to see either person paired with someone else. Usually they're the couple I obsess over, but not always--sometimes I just go THEY'RE MEANT TO BE, OKAY and then go multiship everything else in the fandom. :)

lol yes, this is me too. If I feel like those two characters are meant to be and I cringe at the thought of either being paired with anyone else, they're an OTP. Thor/Loki is my OTP... I don't want to even consider them with anyone else. I love Steve/Tony and think they are a great pair, but I am willing to have Tony/Bruce too so Steve/Tony isn't an OTP. That's how I think of it :)

I personally use OTP for the couple I like the most in any given fandom. So you could say OTP if you like it the most, you know!

I define my OTPs as the pairing I want to see in a particular canon above all other pairings.

Example:

Supernatural - my OTP is Gabriel/Kali. I have no fannish things in my journal of that pairing at all. My all time favourite pairing is actually Gabriel/Lucifer. But, because Gabriel/Kali is the pairing I'd like to see the most in canon, that is what I call my OTP.

It's probably different for everyone, but that's how I do it.

If I feel like two characters are made for each other, I call it an OTP. I can enjoy anything that's well done and I love looking at different possibilities, so I can definitely ship them with other people, but in my mind they're together forever. The characters/pairings I'm obsessing over changes pretty much every day and has nothing to do with it.

I say call it your OTP if that's what you feel like.

I think it's different a lot of people. My OTP is my favorite ship for a certain fandom.

For example my Kingdom Hearts OTP is Riku/Namine, I mostly focus on that pair fandom wise. I also ship Riku/Sora/Kairi, Riku/Sora, Sora/Kairi, Roxas/Xion, Roxas/Alex, Roxas/Alex/Xion, and so on.(I have a ton of ships for this fandom they just aren't my main focus.)

I don't call every ship my OTP, but I do call my favorite pairings in a particular fandom (if I have preferences) my OTPs.

It's always both the couple I'm most obsessed with and the one I like best. I'm very old-fashioned in the fandom world in that I don't multiship often and people who call all their ships OTPs piss me off. My OTP is usually that - my One True Pairing. If I could ship one and only one pairing, this would be the pairing I'd ship. All the other pairings I like I call my ships.

If I were in your situation and I was unsure which of the pairings my entire world would end without, I'd just call both my favorite ships.

I think of OTPs as the one pairing you can't stand to see broken up, and that's it. I guess technically whether you obsess over it or not isn't important, although it's implied.

I don't have many OTPs; I'm one of those people who ends up loving one character way more than any others and then I multi-ship them like crazy. That said, I suppose I come off as having an OTP in some fandoms because of what fandom as a whole ships. Like, I ship Thor/Anyone, but I kinda have to default to squeeing about Thor/Loki because nobody seems to care about shipping Thor with anyone else. :c

I don't do a lot of shipping, so typically, yes.

For me, my OTP is simply a pairing that I really like and maybe focus most of my attention on.

I don't think there's just one way to have an OTP. Like, I usually have no problem with my OTP being paired with other people.
