People really tag fic as unbeata'ed as a point of pride?

I think I've only seen it as a sort of 'read at your own risk', with a request to point out errors, or asking if anyone is interested in beta'ing.

When it gets cutesly like "no beta cause i just can't wait to post!!" it seems that way to me. The tumblr style of tagging makes everything super cutesy. Although, I also tend to pass the ones that say "read at your own risk" or "omg this is so bad" or "i shouldn't be allowed to write" even if they don't seem prideful.

Author's notes are bad that way too. There is one really long fic that I did read and she had an author's note that said "I finally found a beta" and the next three chapters said "unbetaed cause I just can't wait to share!!" and trust me they could have used the beta lol.

I don't know if I've gotten lucky, am completely oblivious, or if my snooty summary selection ways have protected me but I've never seen that!

I can't imagine having a beta and just choosing not to use them. Whut.

I went on AO3 to find examples for you. This is a search for "please don't read this":

http://archiveofourown.org/works/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&query%5Btext%5D=please+don%27t+read+this

This one WIP tag is particularly encouraging:

THIS IS BULLSHIT PLEASE DON'T READ IT SUCKS

Ah! My bad. I meant I'd never seen "too excited to wait for a beta read". I've definitely seen passive-aggressive "lol such a bad writer, don't read this!" tags.

Thanks for linking examples though!

Ah, when it comes to the other I could show you the author's note but I feel that's pretty common in author's notes. The tags are such a mess I am not able to figure the exact wording to find it. TBH I am too lazy to keep looking but next time I stumble on it don't be surprised if I run back here and post it. lol.

I believe you that they exist! Just surprised they're common and I don't understand the logic behind it.

I'll probably see a ton of them now that you've mentioned it! Baader-Meinhoff Phenomenon!
