Can I give my opinion on this? When you look at characters, and you're involved in a story at the time, you forget how old the characters are and how old you are. The story makes you interested in the character. Not... actual boys that age. At least in my experience/anecdotal evidence from other people. I love a series where the main character is 16 years old. It's written from his point of view, and he's totally fantastic. And... I know this isn't the same for everyone, but for me, it's like 'if I were younger, and he were real, I'd be interested!'. I started reading the books when I was 14 years old, and I think I... am reading with part of me in that mindset still.

Oh and I should add, in mine... he's in the medieval era so he's not exactly a 'child' but he's still 'younger than me' :P

I know you're right, and there's not one thing I find sexy about real kids (usually I hate them, the whiny buggers), but I can't help it, it worries me anyway. I'm screwed enough as it is. The last thing I want is to end up a pedo on top of it all. :/

Liking a character who is younger than you doesn't make you a pedo. One is a character. Where you're looking at them from a completely different angle to a real person. Often they're animated, or text only, so 'attractiveness' doesn't really come into it in the same way. Often they act WAY older than real kids would, because of a fantasy plot. Etc. Part of fiction is to have you be sympathetic/interested in the character.
I then look at *real* 16 year old boys and I'm like 'omg ewww NO!!!' if one of them mistakenly hits on me. But, something weird is I can look at kids, and go '... when I was younger, I'd find that guy really attractive'. but... he's not *actually* attractive.
