I've always said my aversion to Miyazaki in particular stems from his stories containing no irony or cynicism whatsoever. So it's very hard for me as an anime fan that people who've shown no interest in anime love the theatrical-release Miyazaki-Ghibli films, and I want to encourage their interest, but don't want to lie and say, "Oh yeah, Ponyo was great!"
