I'm the same way, anon, but for a different reason -- I apparently don't cook properly (I chop ingredients the wrong way, I put too much water in the pot, I whisk incorrectly, etc., etc.), so I get embarrassed whenever someone else watches me cook and starts to "correct" me. My sister's terrible about it, since (having watched all of the cooking shows) she thinks that she's a super chef. I think it's okay if the end result looks and tastes good, but nevertheless I can't stand letting other people watch me cook.

I hope you can manage to get your concern across to your roommates. (They don't sound like particularly decent people, anyway, so I hope you can find a better living situation in time, too.)

This. I had a roommate try to tell me I didn't make scrambled eggs right. I told him if the end result was an egg which had been scrambled, I was fine-and I wasn't ever going to feed him, so why did he give a damn?
