You know, I've noticed this too. I used to politely phrase all of my responses here, triple and quadruple checking before posting just to make sure I wouldn't offend anyone. And out of every five comments I'd post, I might get one response.

The one time I actually got fed up and didn't care how offensive or insulting I came across? I ended up sparking a 50-comment long thread on the subject.

So maybe it's like the old idiom, the squeaky wheel gets the grease i.e. The most offensive / annoying commenter gets the attention.
