Can someone explain to me WTF is going on and who the characters are and what the context is and why it's so terrible that two different OP's in the same comm sent similar secrets at the same time?

/I love reading fandom anger about works I'm unfamiliar with. Don't know why. I just loooooooooooove it.

Transformers is known for shipping wank, is the most important thing. But unlike ship wars in other fandoms, TF wank is about whether you're even ALLOWED to ship TFs.

There are three characters there:

Chromedome, the orange/yellow robot, who used to be a police offer and is also a mnemosurgeon, which means he can stick his fingers into the heads of other TFs and read their memories. Unfortunately, he's been suffering some bad side effects from the skill recently, including having first-person dreams that don't belong to him.

Rewind, the small black/white bot on the bottom panel: Literally a memory stick, adorable, tiny and snarky. He and Chromedome became friends while Chromedome was "damn near suicidal", in Chromedome's own words, but we don't know the details.

Prowl: Complicated. He's always been by-the-books, and the war ground down on him HARD. He's also pretty much the epitome of believing that the ends justify the means, so someone with Chromedome's skillset would have been damn useful to them.

We knew Chromedome and Prowl used to be partners in the police force before the war. We knew Rewind and Chromedome were very close. We had a scene where Rewind provided emotional support to Chromedome when Chromedome was telling Prowl he was leaving Cybertron, where Prowl is still heading up security. Prowl took it badly.

Needless to say, all of this has created shipping, especially Chromedome/Rewind shipping (they also share quarters, so that helps). This panel was in the newest issue, and everyone freaked out. Some people think it's proof-positive of Chromedome/Rewind, other people think that it's proof of the lesser-loved Chromedome/Prowl. Others are still wondering why Cybertronian relationships have to work like human ones. Regardless of whether we have gay robots, romantic robots, or simply veryvery close friend robots, we definitely have jealous robots.

Why exactly it's unfeasible that two people would have similar reactions in secrets? No clue. Maybe because the TF fanbase that hangs out on FS isn't very big. But otherwise it seems perfectly reasonable to me, and given that the issue with the scene in question came out on Wednesday, and it caused an uproar in fandom, I don't really see how it doesn't make sense for two people to make secrets.

Thank you, helpful anon!

I actually meant "why is the scene so terrible that it would cause enough widespread outrage that two different OP's would send secrets about the same thing at the same time". I didn't word that very well, lol. ;) But from what you've said, it doesn't look like it's terrible at all -- it seems it's just people getting butthurt about their headcanons being threatened or their ships being sunk?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-05 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
More....ships being floated rather than sunk. But basically. :D

Thanks for the updates fellow anon!
I don't read the comics atm because there is so much wank going on.
I prefer "coming late to the party" on purpose.

But I was curious what the fuss in this secret was about ^^#

Basically, both shippers and anti-shippers are being ridiculous about the two robot dudes' epic bromance. The OP of 14 just hates character development.

Other replying anon:

Said far more succinctly than I!

And now people are being threatened by the fact that apparently Prowl and Chromedome ALSO had an epic bromance, I think. Bromance triangle GO!

lol @ bromance triangle :D This reminds me of the SG-1 days where Jack/Daniel shippers were all ~threatened~ by Teal'c. Or maybe that was just in my circle...

OTish

First fic I ever wrote wax a cute pg-13 Teal'c/Daniel that honestly focused more on worldbuilding Chulak and examining Egyptian culture, etc. than shipping. I was twelve at the time, which was stated in my profile and I ended up getting flamed by a woman with kids my age for writing "bestiality". LOL good times. Fortunately the rest of my SG experience was relatively boring.

Re: OTish

...what on earth was this woman doing in a SCIFI fandom?

Isn't it generally accepted in Scifi that as long as two species are of the same mental and approximate physical level than it's not bestiality? That's how I understood it, at least. Therefore, if you write Klingon/Human your'e good, but if you write Tribble/Romulan, you're probably gonna need a warning...

Unless Danny was doing it with the worm....

She wrote really ooc cheesy J/D adopt a shitload of kids fic that spent a lot of time bashing Sam, ignoring Teal'c, and making almost no mention of sci-fi elements so idk?

And, no, my Daniel/Junior phase didn't come until later.

If she bashed Sam she's obviously not part of this reality, at least in my opinion. Must have stumbled over from a mirrorverse...

Ah. :p

Sam was literally my first positive female role model and is forever my favorite and actually the reason I started watching SG1. So... agreed. :)

Nah, I doubt there's much of a triangle going on. I gather by the time Chromedome and Rewind met, Prowl had been broken, and the Prowl that Chrome was friends/partners (be it strictly in the 'job' sense, or the romantic one as well) had been lost to the authoritarian, war-crime-covering-up bigot we know and loathe now. Chromedome might still miss him, which'd probably bother Rewind (though less so now that he and Chromedome are on the Lost Light, whereas Prowl is still back on Cybertron trying desperately to look like the good guy when Starscream is managing to treat most of the population with more respect than him) but I doubt there's any real C/P left in the present.
