19. Cosplay. Go wiki it. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosplay)

Er, dressing up like characters for cons has been around a lot longer than the word's been in our (and by our I mean Western) vocabulary. We just now have a specific word for it, but it didn't introduce the concept.

Yeah? You get american-related cosplays in anime conventions. And anime cosplays in american cons. What's the difference?

[identity profile] errorism.livejournal.com 2007-08-15 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the annoyance is because comic cons are becoming overrun with the anime cosplayers, which wasn't really an issue a few years ago. I can totally see where they're coming from - imagine if all the anime-related cons got completely invaded by non-Japanese-based stuff. It'd kind of defy the point of the event.

dfjssdf Comic vs manga secret comes to mind again. D: I don't know. People should just leave it alone and just have fun.

There is no difference. I don't particularly care for either instance, really. I mean, yeah, cosplay is for fun and do what you like, but it just seems odd when there's other perfectly fine cons to do it at. Also there are way more anime cons than comic cons.

Then I can see how that does get annoying. :/
