(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 07:08 am (UTC)(link)Does this mean I should go to America and expect it to cater to me about Jersey Shore?
Or go to Britain and expect it to cater to me about Sherlock?
Like, seriously? You go to ANOTHER COUNTRY and you spend your time being disappointed that your fandom isn't everywhere? Rather than enjoying that you're in ANOTHER COUNTRY GETTING A CHANCE TO BROADEN YOUR HORIZONS?
Normally I hate it when people dictate how others should spend their money, but wow, what a waste of money on you. I'd have preferred it if you just stayed home and bought a bunch of fandom merchandise.
Yes, this anon is jealous and seethy.
I'd love to go to Japan. I would go to all the temples and check out all the museums and go to Mt Fuji and check out hotsprings and be all wide-eyed about the cultural differences and try all (most) of the food and I would take so many photos.
Do they do hot air balloon rides? i'd totally go on one of those over one of the cities.
OP
(Anonymous) 2012-11-06 07:20 am (UTC)(link)I went to Japan expecting to really enjoy the history and culture, but for some reason, I didn't enjoy it. I travel a lot, and sometimes you like countries better than others. It's not that I hated it or anything, and it's not that it wasn't a good trip, or that there's not a lot to see, I just loved it a lot less than I loved other countries, and a lot less than I thought I would.
I spent 99% of the time in museums and temples, anyway.
But see, I'm not like you. I don't get wide eyed over cultural differences. It's interesting to see and to study about, but I don't get wide eyed. I've seen lots of different cultures, and many are interesting.
I didn't have time to go to Fuji - it was a relatively short trip. I wanted to go to a hotspring, but couldn't afford it. And I took many photos.
So how can I tell somebody like you that I "didn't like Japan"? There's no reason for it. I just didn't love it so much. You probably would. I hope you can go some day.
And on top of that, besides everything else, I couldn't even enjoy the anime very much, because I only like obscure things. So I couldn't even be a crazy fan about it.
