"If I see something on my dash that spoils me or (for the sake of argument, as I don't have any triggers) triggers me, I have paid a much greater price..."

That's where your wording confuses me since that's exactly what you implied until you clarified for me. However, I still think you're wrong to borrow something you can't relate to for your aversion to spoilers. If it's effort you're going with, don't subscribe to people who never spoiler tag.

I still don't see how that wording implies that I think spoilers = triggers. I think we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

I didn't "borrow" triggers to reinforce a "point" about spoilers. The point is about tags, and I was talking about how in general people on the Internet can be affected by either thing and that's why it's important to use tags.

If it's effort you're going with, don't subscribe to people who never spoiler tag.

I don't, but I don't think there's anything wrong with me complaining about people who don't spoiler tag too because it really is basic courtesy and my whole point is that if I'm spoiled once before I unfollow them, then it is because of their lazy not-tagging. If a person is triggered because they didn't know someone they followed didn't tag for triggers, that is obviously WAY WAY WAY worse. They can then (and I imagine would) unfollow that person, but they can't get back the damage that was done the one time because that person didn't tag. Both are bad. The spoiler thing is relatively minor, but that doesn't mean it isn't a thing.

This whole thing is really convoluted but my original point was: saying "so just unfollow me!!!" isn't a complete argument against "it's rude to not tag" because they will have to be negatively affected by one's lack of tags before the unfollow part happens.

Then why mention triggers at all if you don't have them? Other than being an appropriating shitbag, of course.

Because some people do have them and that is one reason why it is important to tag. >_________> this is not that complicated.

But you don't. So you can stop stealing their experiences to make stupid points anytime.

I see. You are of the camp where nobody is even allowed to talk about anything that is not directly relevant to them.

I think that's a stupid philosophy. *shrug*

Try reading it without the parentheses then. I'm putting it up to bad sentencing you honestly can't see, but fair enough. I'll agree to disagreeing.

of course anyone can complain about this, just as there's anyone free to complain about people complaining about people complaining and so on and so forth.

Tagging is not important, and nothing to do with courtesy. Warning is. Whether it's through a warning in your header, or a lead in mentioning it before a cut, that's what guarantees someone avoiding a harmful post. Because seriously, this tagging nonsense is only relevant if you use tumblr savior or some other extension entirely dependent on your browser. Even then, with warnings and tags, they are not owed. Awesome if they're there, and definitely polite and thoughtful, but no one is entitled to them.

Not following people who don't tag is obvious. Assuming you followed them, you would know by simply glancing through their blog beforehand how little or often they do so. A surprisingly untagged post with spoilers, or omg a fandom you don't like (which is exactly what the secret is about)? Scroll on. Don't pretend you're priority is watching out for folk who have triggers. (general "you")

Also... Have you, or otakugal, reported this thread yet? I'm wondering why it hasn't been frozen yet.

To be fair, I am very new to Tumblr. I was under the basic impression that the way to avoid any kind of undesirable thing was to use Tumblr savior on it, and that people didn't really ever use cuts. But so far the blogs I follow are for the most part very PG...

I do appreciate your point about the original post being about fandom distaste. I'm not really sure why people got so upset that I pointed out there are other reasons it's important to tag, but...ok. Don't really want to have a big fight about it.

(Honestly, at this point I'll probably be called a lot of horrible names because I didn't kowtow to the popular PC opinion but honestly? I try to do my very best to be respectful, non-judgmental, and fair. I'm willing to accept that some people will hate me for accidentally saying something that stepped on toes.)

What exactly is the point of reporting the thread? I'm not personally hugely bothered or offended by it

Kowtow what now? Let me put it this way: you're not a person with a contrary opinion against the apparent sj/pc/bogeyman squad; you're sticking your foot in your mouth about things you don't seem to know much about (including how2tumblr), and insisting there is no foot even after it's pointed out. Yes, it's very thoughtful to use TS along with keywords for warnings. That's not what I'm is getting at. At all.

Apologies if I come across as aggressive, condescending, or combative. That's not my intent.

I ask about the reporting because there's a lot of personal attacks in these threads. Which, you know, is against the rules. I'm not challenging your thick skin status :b

Fair enough. I've just dealt with a lot of people who turn into assholes the moment you accidentally say something they view as incorrect so my initial response tends to be to get my back up. I don't think you were an asshole, I just think there was a misunderstanding and I will definitely take what you've said into consideration in the future when/if I say anything on the topic. I didn't mean to upset anyone either.

(Being new to Tumblr isn't really anything to be ashamed about, is it? Maybe I stuck my foot in my mouth on the whole triggering thing but Tumblr? 0_0 This is kind of why I get defensive, I mean if someone is going to shame me for misunderstanding the way a blog site works...)

The tumblr foot is my bad there, There's no actual reason to harp on you for being new. I mean, I wonder why you'd offer advice on how to use or participate in a community you're not familiar with, but yeah. That's really dumb of me to bring that up as a negative that means anything related to what I was saying.

Like spoilers haha oh god :(
