Re: Common Fanfic Plots You Absolutely Cannot Stand

Love triangles. The concept itself doesn't interest me, and on top of that, I have yet to see a well-written love triangle fanfic plot.

Relatedly, when they take characters who are canonically close friends and warp it into some kind of friendzone situation where one character only cares about the other one because he wants to get into her pants. (I say he and her because that's the way I always see it, though I'm sure it happens gender-reversed and in slash or femslash, too.)

I see it in slash all over the fucking place. This is my issue with 80% of Bruce/Tony fic in Avengers fandom, tbh :\ It's so gross and insulting and like, wow dude, way to completely do away with the entire reason you ever squeed over the characters' relationship in the first place.

Also Doctor/Rose fic, Kirk/Spock fic, Zuko/Katara fic....so many more. I don't understand shippers' aversion to the idea of writing characters as decent people and finding the idea of writing characters as sociopaths who only care about this one single person they're in love with -- which, you know, makes it all about them, not the character they're in love with.
