Re: Your First Period (Possibly TMI)

I got mine in sixth grade. It actually wouldn't have been too bad, since I have an older sister so I had a general idea of the whole period thing and we had pads in the house, but unfortunately for me this was a few days before the entire sixth grade was scheduled to go on a three day field trip at a nearby camp. I had to bring pads with me and sneak around to change them because I didn't want to be made fun of by ye old mean girls for having my period (one of my friends who was not particularly well-liked by much of the class went to take a shower the first night and as it turned out our shower had no shower curtain, and a couple of the aforementioned mean girls snuck in during her shower and then announced giggling to the whole class that she had pubic hair, so you can imagine why I was freaking out about the period thing). Also the camp only had a certain amount of activities per day scheduled but wouldn't let us go back to our cabins in the downtime, so I couldn't get to the extra pads in my backpack and was too shy to tell the teacher my problem so I kept having to wear these really thick pads for hours at a time (I was too nervous to try using a tampon. Also while the cabins had real bathrooms, everywhere else in the camp was only outhouses and there was no way I was going to use one of those). I ended up lying to the teacher at least once and getting him to let me back into the cabin by claiming I needed my inhaler and then when my teacher took me back to the cabin to get it I asked if I could stop by the bathroom while I was there. Thankfully it was nearly non-existent by the end of the second day, but it still made the much-anticipated field trip kind of suck for me.
