It was the month I turned 12. I don't think we made a huge deal out of it, there wans't a party or anything. My Mom might have taken me to lunch or something, but I don't really remember. I didn't want an ordeal made at the time, but I didn't care who knew. My aunt and grandmother congradulated me, I don't know if I told anybody else.

I agree that the episode of 7th Heaven sounds awful. I can't imagine having something like that forced on me. For me it would be humiliating.
