There are references to the colonies, but at least in the latest one, world history has changed significantly from our own because of the dragons (the Incan empire is still around).

Other than that, China's not a big world conqueror because it's rather isolationist and its dragons are citizens, meaning that quite a lot of them don't want to serve in the military or whatever.

And... I don't know. A lot of what I'd tell you depends on how far you got before you gave up. So...?

I think I got pretty far? Um, Laurence 'betrayed' England by not letting them be a bunch of dicks and kill all the dragons and he was shipped off to Australia and that's when I stopped because I couldn't really see where the plot was going.
