Re: Your First Period (Possibly TMI)

I got my first period at the age of 12. I was sleeping over at a friend's house, and for some reason, we were both embarrassed and didn't want to go to her mom or older sister for feminine products. So, I tried to ignore it, and naturally wound up soaking through and ruining both pairs of panties that I had brought with me.

When I got home, I told my mother, and she didn't make a big deal out of it; she just got down to business. She went out and bought me some tampons and pads (she had had a hysterectomy at this point, so she was no longer menstruating and as such didn't keep any products), and I asked her if using a tampon would mean that I was no longer a virgin, and she looked at me like I was crazy and said, "of course not." Then, I spent half an hour locked in the bathroom, trying to insert a tampon into myself and failing miserably. I wound up using a pad, even though I really didn't want to.

I spent the next week being upset each day that I woke up and was still menstruating, because I found it to be terribly annoying and inconvenient. But at least I didn't yet have the cramps. Those started on period number two, and they were terrible and made me hate everything.

Soooo. This was kind of long. Sorry about that.
