There have been plenty of well rounded female characters since the X files. And by the way, the X-files and Elementary share just about nothing in common with each other. Not even on the most superficial level. They aren't even in the same genre.

Edit: Erg -- I'm tired. I pretty much misinterpreted what you meant. You really literally think that X-files is a good stand in for Elementary. I have no idea why. Except for having a male and female lead characters and having something remotely to do with solving crimes, everything from the atmosphere, the characterizations, the dynamic, the crimes, nothing is remotely similar. It's like saying when you want a show that has a lot of novel weaponry in it you substitute Saw for Avengers.
