This issue is so goddamn messy that I think anyone who rabidly takes 100% one side or the other is a complete idiot, tbqh.

+10000 It's not really a black or white or one or the other thing, which a lot of people don't seem to realize. There's right and wrong and idiots on both sides of the issue, tbh.

Yes, this is a complicated issue with a lot of history--political and religious--which a lot of people aren't willing to wade through, especially if you're in the US where the topic is already heavily loaded. But I fail to see how anyone could really look at this topic and come out supporting illegal occupation and government sanctioned murder.

It's complex, yes, but where the support and aid should fall? That really should be a no-brainer.

Except it's not, particularly if you look at whose been allied with who, and for how long. You also have to factor in *how* Israel came into being [this time around], and that further complicates who should be supported in certain western countries - along with the fact *both* sides have done some pretty damn horrible things to each other.

So the fact that both sides have done horrible things to each other in their histories (note: just about everywhere that has had conflict has a history of being pretty damn horrible to each other, so that argument doesn't hold water in this context at all)...means that the current state of atrocities going on is perfectly acceptable and should be allowed to continue when a clearly more powerful country with its support from several global superpowers beats down on an currently far weaker and wildly outgunned group? Seriously?

I'm sorry, but that makes no sense at all. As many activists and academics--Jewish and non-Jewish alike--have said: one holocaust does not justify another.

Calling a spade a spade, what's going on currently is a war crime and very few people are willing to admit that it is. Sure, the history is long and bloody and complicated, but in this moment things are not so complicated.
