It's because there's really no clear goal or decision or plan. With things like, say, gay marriage, it's pretty clear: it's wrong to deny the right to marry to gay couples just because they're gay; they should be allowed to marry. Petitions, awareness, voting, there you go.
Whereas with Palestine, the situation is wrong but there's no clear answer for what needs to happen. Support a two-state solution? Stop the land-grabbing? Get rid of Israel? Wars? Protests? Nobody knows for sure and everyone is very impassioned about it. And nobody wants to be accused of anti-Semitism, even though that's not what the issue should be about at all.

Exactly. This is why I've given up having an opinion on the Israel/Palestine conflict. I have no idea how to fix any of it other than "Um, maybe you all could try to be nicer to each other?" and so why bother having an opinion on something if you really don't understand it?

A lot of troubling shit in this comment.

First, you act as though there isn't already a very clear starting point in this issue (psst, I'll give you a hint: it involves not murdering civilians) and that from that basic starting point there's no way to move forward. The fact of the matter is that there are many options, but none can happen while the Israeli government sanctions attacks and checkpoints on Palestinian people as though they are cattle. Unless there is a willingness to treat people as human beings with a right to life how is any progress supposed to be made?

Second, your example of gay marriage in comparison is not analogous for a lot of reasons. Right to marriage and right to life are not, I'm sorry to say, on the same bar. And in addition to that gay marriage is not the be-all-end-all of gay rights and liberation, it's depressing that so many people think it is.
