I like AUs... to an extent. If the AU is a short self indulgent fluff or smut piece with little to no consequence, yes I will read it and enjoy it.

If the AU is a long epic retelling of the canon in a different setting, with slightly different themes I will read the fuck out of it.

BUT if the AU is self indulgent, long and totally disregards anything in cannon in virtue of it's own shit. No. Thanks. It might as well be original fiction cause I don't recognize anyone anymore.
ESPECIALLY if OC's start to play a major role or getting their own subplots and so on.

I disagree.

Some of the fics I've loved best were filled with OCs doing their own thing.
