Bahaha, something about this secret is so funny and I'm not sure why. Maybe the wording and how to the point it is.

That said, this feels like a secret created to bait wank.

Also, IDK who these people are, but the one on the right looks like the one on the left's son. Yes, no, I'm crazy?

They're actually soldiers in the same unit. Piers (character in the background) is thirteen years younger then Chris (the one in the front).

And this is what creates ship wank bait in the first place. It's also why I have a hard time taking any pairing that does this, seriously. When someone in fandom(s) say it must be accepted "because a wide majority say so"? It's not a ship for me.

I don't like it when people do that either. It comes off as arrogant and pushy. This sort of thing does happen though, probably in most fandoms, but sometimes it's just a couple of people being dickish. I'm not sure if the majority of the RE fandom acts this way or not, so I can't comment.

I can assure you, it does happen in fandoms outside RE. Though to be honest, I haven't been very active all that much in RE's fandom to witness it first hand. I do have a decent enough idea of what it looks like. It's in these tedious circles that all fandoms seem to run in and overlap with each other. Scary in that regard, to be honest.

I think they're more evidence of Chris and Piers than a lot of "canon" relationships. I don't see the issue, or the reasoning behind attacking RE shippers :/

My true and honest personal opinion is that [warning: spoilers]


Midway through the Chris and Piers campaign, as Chris started to get his memories back, I think he slowly started to realize how Piers felt about him, as more than just a partner and I think those feelings confused him. Combine that with his frustration over losing more men, and it exploded out of him like a volcano. However, I think towards the end of the campaign, I he was quickly growing to like the idea of he & Piers being together, especially after Chris retired (and it may have even been a good part of his reason to even WANT to retire). I think it's more than traumatic that we won't have the opportunity to see it come to fruition in future Resident Evil titles. Their relationship really had potential, and I think it would have put Capcom in a good place with a lot of people.

I do ship it. But I don't know if I agree with all that.
However, there is an interesting bit of dialogue in Chapter 5.

Piers: Well, I'll tell ya this much. I can't say I've lacked for adventure working with you.
Chris: Sorry, I know it's never been easy being my partner. Once we get outta here, that's all gonna change.

I know he's probably not referring to them becoming lovers or anything. But it does indicate that he wants to keep Piers as a part of his life in some way, or make up for the way he's treated him throughout the campaign.
