Honestly, I'm offended by both the people who signed this ludicrous petition and the people that keep trotting out this bullshit story as the punch line to some stupid joke. It's an excuse to be able to paint Americans and those from conservative-leaning states with a derp paintbrush. There are a lot if stupid people with access to the Internet. Some of those people know how to type their names. It doesn't mean anything except what I just said: stupid people do stupid things.

This. And they're not even anywhere approaching the majority. Plus random extremists threatening secession when crap doesn't go their way isn't exactly new, and it isn't limited just to the more traditionally "red" states (see: California, Oregon, Maine). The only thing novel about this is that there are so many petitions at once, but that's probably at least partially because of how easy it is for people to type up a petition and post it on the Internet.
