Because petitions on the internet always work.
The one getting the most attention is Texas. http://www.loweringthebar.net/2012/11/texas-votes-to-secede.html
Now there are more petitions! http://www.loweringthebar.net/2012/11/counter-petition-asks-to-deport-people-who-signed-other-petitions.html
This is the best thing ever after what has been a shitty day... I wonder if any of this will end up on the Daily Show, or Colbert Report.

(How else will you keep pretending that you won the war?)
Re: Because petitions on the internet always work.
Hey, if Texas leaves and Puerto Rico joins, we won't have to change the flag at all!
The counter-petition is hilarious. I wonder if there'll be a counter-counter petition. "Everyone who signed the 'Deport Everyone [Who] Signed a Petition to Withdraw Their State from the United States of America' petition doesn't get to eat any Texan food for the rest of their lives."
Re: Because petitions on the internet always work.
LOL mte, I was just thinking that
Re: Because petitions on the internet always work.
That's my main concern with admitting new states. I'd be glad to have Puerto Rico, but... BUT THE STARS ON THE FLAG, IT'S GOING TO BE SO SLOPPY WITH 51 NOW, OMG WHAT ARE WE--oh, there goes Texas, it's gonna be okay, all good and symmetrical again.
Re: Because petitions on the internet always work.
Does anyone who does't live there really know that West Virginia is its own state? Or we could smush the Dakotas or Carolinas together.

That was my first thought when I heard about the secession petition. >_> (Well, 'you', not 'we', since I'm not American, but you know what I mean.)
sign my petition to agree to ignore internet petitions
Even as a Texan I'd like to see it happen, once everyone sane got out, just for the lulz and the fact they would shut the fuck up about it once they came limping back.

Re: sign my petition to agree to ignore internet petitions
Actually, thinking about it more, most of them probably aren't stupid people. I imagine some of them are. A lot of them however are probably reasonably intelligent people who feel so strongly about how things have gone at the moment that they have just over-reacted. A good number are probably just trolls, or people who realize the whole thing is pointless and just want to have fun with it. It doesn't matter to me. I'm not signing anything, I'm just going to enjoy the show.

Though I know nothing will come of it, those people are idiots, and not all the signatures are even from Texas. Still.
