Does this have anything at all to do with Chrono Trigger or are they just sharing the "Chrono"?

It doesn't, although Chrono Crusade's original logo even had the interlocking Cs and a clock face, so...it's often confused as being part of the game series. Chrono Crusade has to do with fighting demons in the 1920s, though. And sadly no time travel.

You know, for the longest time, I watched Chrono Crusade thinking, this is good, but where's the time travel, the demi-humans, any of that? Because of the logo and how Chrono looks a bit like Serge, from the Chrono Trigger sequel Chrono Cross. I even though the religion was a literal take on Cross. XD

It's a good series, though, regardless.

I think you're right - it's the complementary colour thing. Violet/Yellow(ish).

I didn't even think of it from a color theory stand point, but that makes a ton of sense to me now. I just checked the anime (where he's pretty consistently tan) and yeah, it's definitely a yellow-toned, light brown color.

Now I feel slightly better about it.

I think so, too. Wasn't Aion (pardon me if that's wrong) also really dark skinned? And weren't they literal brothers in the manga? I can't remember.

Yeah, Aion's darker than Chrono, even when Chrono's colored with tanner skin. And yes, they're literally twins. Nearly identical if you compare their faces when in their unsealed forms. [MEGA SPOILERS FOR THE MANGA FOLLOWING THIS] Aion went through a coming-of-age ceremony from hell that turned his hair white and his skin darker...for...some reason. (probably just so it's less obvious that they're twins until the big reveal, IDK.) They were also human, but their mother got abducted by demons (who are actually aliens) while she was pregnant with them and turned into the demon hive queen, and somehow that process turned them into demons themselves.

The manga has a weird backstory.

Also Aion's eye color didn't change, so in...I think one of the colored manga art you can see that in the manga he actually has red eyes like Chrono, instead of purple like they gave him in the anime.

The manga backstory is beautiful and also strange as hell. The friend who got me into Chrono Crusade actually apparently missed the alien part, so every time I mention it she looks confused.

LOL I think the first time I was reading the ending I was chatting with the friend who introduced the series to me while I was doing so, and I remember IMing her all "ARE THEY ALIENS? I'M NOT MISUNDERSTANDING THIS, RIGHT?"

It comes out of nowhere but I have to admit I kind of like it, lol.

And now Moriyama's doing some other series with cellphone demons and it's really seeming like they're aliens, too. He just...really likes aliens I guess.
