Fun with numbers

(Anonymous) 2012-11-14 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
How's this for interesting? I posted two secrets this week, and they've both been the same number in the list and the number of days between them was also that number.

CONSPIRACY

Technophile! When will you reveal your connections to the Freemasons? Are you, in fact, a member of the Illuminati? Where were you on November 22 1963

The number has to be 7 or smaller. F!S detectives, go!

Has to be 4 or smaller, actually. Because if the number were 5-7, there'd be no way for enough days to have elapsed.

Why? Isn't there 6 days between Monday and Sunday?

(Then I almost failed math so I could be mistaken...)

But each secret submission is open from Saturday to Saturday. I guess we should ask the OP to define what they meant by a "week" too.

Same amount of days still counts, instead of Monday to Sunday we got Saturday to Saturday.

We need more facts! I am pretty sure none of us are Sherlock!

But you can't be sure that Sherlock isn't here unless Sherlock says he isn't one of us :O

There is an anon down thread who is making a lot of sense... Maybe that is Sherlock?

What exactly does the list refer to? I took it as the list of numbered secrets this week as the secrets were posted each day. I guess that's the wrong interpretation?

I read "list" as being the list of secrets in a given post. So if the secret number and the days between secrets were all the same, if OP's 1st secret posted as number 4 on Saturday then the other one would be number 4 four days later, which would be today.

Of course, it also could be a matter of being numbers 1 one on either Sat/Sun, Sun/Mon, or Mon/Tue. etc. Or maybe I'm reading it wrong, too. *would do shrug emoticon if I knew how offhand*

Ah, right! Let's define a week as Saturday to Friday, since Saturday is when the old secret submission post closes a the new one opens. Since today is Day 5 of the week, the maximum number per this definition is 5-1=4.

If number=1, day=Sat/Sun, Sun/Mon, Mon/Tue, Tue/Wed
If number=2, day=Sat/Mon, Sun/Tue, Mon/Wed
If number=3, day=Sat/Tue, Sun/Wed
If number=4, day=Sat/Wed

But if this isn't how OP defines a week then we're off. Hm.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
...oh god I'm so embarrassed. I had a similar thought when I read the op's comment, but mine was "It has to be a number less than 10!"

Re: Fun with numbers

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Wrong! The week began on Sunday, and it's only Wednesday! The number has to be between one and four.

I suspect it isn't one, so it's either 2, 3, or 4.

Re: Fun with numbers

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
I'd wager it's probably four, since today is the fourth day, and I think it would be more likely for someone to post this observation the day it happens than to wait a day or two afterwards.

Re: Fun with numbers

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
What if it were two? Wouldn't that add to the conspiracyness? Two secrets, number two, two days apart?

This is like a poor man's Number 23 here.

Re: Fun with numbers

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Good point, anon.

By the end of this we're all going to end up with print outs of secrets haphazardly pinned all over our walls, covered in nonsense writing and numbers written in red pen.

Re: Fun with numbers

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Unless the OP of this thread is going to great pains to keep the numbers secret:

1: 11/10 and 11/11 do text-to-picture differently. 11/11 and 11/12 have completely different writing styles. 11/12 also sort of nixes the 11/12 and 11/13 match too. 11/13 and 11/14...maybe, but it seems like an odd fandom overlap. In any case, both of those secrets have an uncapitalized "it," which seems like an oddly specific error for two separate OPs.

I don't think it's number 2. 11/10 and 11/12 have pretty big length differences. 11/11 and 11/13 are clearly made with different programs, and 11/12 and 11/14 use their photos differently--one runs over it with text while the other makes a separate box.

I'm not sure about 3 or 4, though.

Re: Fun with numbers

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
What about 11/12 and 11/14? They're kinda similar in length and about feeling weird and gross?

Re: Fun with numbers

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
They don't look like they match stylistically. Also, 11/12 uses an & and 11/14 does not. (Frankly, the grammar in 11/14 is better. They even use the em dash properly.)

Re: Fun with numbers

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
I've been first twice this week.

Re: Fun with numbers

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Are you OP from above?

(And woo, one of my secrets was first this week, too~)

No, I'm not.
