I'm feeling pretty tired out tonight, and my family's router is on the fritz, so I won't be able to read any replies until tomorrow evening. I'm sorry! You guys are on an honor system: the first person to mention the X hiatus, SeiSub, KuroFay, SakuSyao, DouWata, or plot twists loses.

Today's theme is...RG Veda! General series discussion. (And I haven't actually read this one, so please do talk about why you liked it!) How do you think CLAMP's writing and art styles changed since the series was first published?

I haven't read this one either, but I've watched the oavs twice...years ago. I found them on laserdisc, even. :3

I don't remember much, except one of my fave seiyuu, Hayami Shou, did the voice of the male non-villain lead. The one with long hair who travelled along with the pointy-eared girl.

I've been rereading Rg Veda (though I haven't finished yet) and art-wise it's one of my favourites. Everyone's gorgeous, the clothes are beautiful and the designs of the buildings and palaces are really interesting. Ashura reminds me of Fuuma with the 'evil other personality' bit which makes me wonder if Fuuma's story was going to end something like Ashura's.

The constant tragedy does get kind of exhausting and I found some of Taishakuten's motivations difficult to understand, particularly the death of Karyoubinga. But as I said I haven't finished my reread and I've forgotten a lot of details so maybe it will make sense to me when I'm done.

Ashura's relationship with Yasha is really lovely. I do love the 'stoic protector' trope.

I mainly just like it 'cause it's gorgeous and I have nostalgia filter.
It was the first piece of fiction I've read where the plot had a significant twist, the main character was neither male nor female, and included themes of destiny and reincarnation. It seemed very "grown up" to me at the time and was put on that mental "higher shelf" so to speak.

Even now, I think it is best in their artwork and I feel its spiritual/modern-day successor is [X].
