I suspect they were probably being hyperbolic because it's fun to be that way sometimes and not really being all that serious or literal. I'm sure saying if you don't like 'X'you have no soul is just one of those types of expressions like saying something like I love chocolate so much I could bathe in it. Of course there are people in the world who might be serious enough to really want to bathe in chocolate, but I think most people saying that would probably be speaking tongue in cheek and hperbolically even if they really did love chocolate.

I'm sure they were, it was just the tone, you know? All the comments at the time seemed to be really angry about the idea that someone could hate this movie. I'm not really still upset about it, it's just something that I never told anyone.
