Agreed agreed agreed!

I was a little confused by this secret. There seems to be this implication in it that Tamaki/Haruhi has no chemistry, and when people say that, it makes me want to cry big giant crocodile tears of doom. D: Or, I don't know, maybe I'm assuming things and this person just means a different type of chemistry? Like, less "in your face!" and more subtext-y? MOAR CLARIFICATION PLZ, SECRET 16. :(

(And I thought I was the only one who wasn't smitten with the twins.)

I don't know. :/ I guess there are different definitions of chemistry, and different people see different things. On top of that, there are times when a pairing has chemistry or potential chemistry, but some people just don't like it — I can think of a few like that for me.

(Let me clarify: I'm not crazy about them — in fact, I hate Hikaru — but I refuse to ship them with anyone other than each other, no matter how canon it is.)

I'm just in for the wank. Me, my OTP is Kyouya/world domination. Or Kyouya/Ayame. That'll do. ♡

The problem is, even if this person is referring to different types of chemistry, I'm not sure canon het chemistry can ever have chemistry like slash and minor het. Maybe it's like apples and oranges, hmm~ Though about what you said re: not liking pairings with (potential) chemistry: I'm like that too. Sometimes I won't ship it, but that also doesn't mean that I'm blind to the chemistry that does exist between the pairing. (I'm not sure if that's where you were going with that...?)

(I'm least fond of Hikaru myself. I tried to grok him and it just didn't work out. Though Kaoru I can empathize with, a little.)

OK, that OTP is made of win. ♥ It makes me rethink my Kyouya/Renge ship.

Apples and oranges sound about right. Canon het (or even canon slash!) chemistry will always be different than non-canon, whether it's slash or het. It's like you said, canon chemistry is often much more blatant, and non-canon more subtle and subtext-y.

And that's exactly where I was going with that, actually. Like, I definitely, definitely, definitely don't ship Haruhi/Hikaru, but I see the chemistry, I do. Not gonna make me like it.

(I love Kaoru, honestly. And I don't mind 'the twins' as a package — but Hikaru without Kaoru is a nightmare. Kaoru without Hikaru I can do.)

Which? /world domination or /Ayame? Because both are pretty fucking awesome. I do ship Kyouya/Renge, though, much to my own surprise, and only upon my second watching of the series. I hated Renge the first time through.

That's true, and sometimes it's precisely why I might or might not end up shipping the canon couple, be it slash or het. When it comes to slash, at least, I think I have a preference to subtle rather than blatant, but not subtext-y, either. (I mean, I don't want subtext to be the sole reason I find a slash pairing attractive enough to ship.) And I'm actually pretty surprised with myself that I like Tamaki/Haruhi so, considering that they're so blatant and sometimes I feel like I'm getting slapped in the face with it. XD; Sometimes blatant canon pairings can get tiring, but I think with Ouran the reason I still ship Tamaki/Haruhi is because there's so much subtext with alternative pairings in the series, too, that it counteracts the pairing. There's a nice balance in the series.

(So agreed. Kaoru is Hikaru's better half, his redeeming quality.)

BOTH. *fangasms* Oh, but I instantly liked Renge. I thought she made an excellent foil to Haruhi since she's so ungrounded. XD; I think Kyouya and Renge would be cute together, although I admit the Kyouya/Tamaki subtext is pretty... tempting? blatant? I wish more people'd ship Kyouya/Renge, in any case. XDDD

There are times when I prefer Tamaki/Kyouya over Tamaki/Haruhi, just because Tamaki/Kyouya is so much more understated and complex, and I appreciate that in a pairing — but like you, subtle and not too subtext-y is usually best in any pairing, I think. Prince of Tennis (for example, though you're not in the fandom that I can tell) really has no canon pairings to speak of, but it's chock-full of subtle and subtextual slash and little bits of het. That's why it's so easy to have fun with. Any series with too many blatant pairings, slash or het, is bound to get boring. :/ Though the wank should be great.

(Or his lovely item. ;D)

dkslafj;adsf, Kyouya/Ayame, honestly, I cannot get enough of it. Or maybe I can't get enough of Kyouya, because I really, really love Kyouya/Tamaki, too.

And you know, Renge's one of the two character types that instantly pisses me off (that is, loud and interfering) — it always takes me a second go-round to begin to grudgingly like them. (You're familiar with CLAMP — I hated CCS' Meiling at first, too. |D;) Now that I've come around to liking Renge, though, I'm seeing all kinds of subtext with her and Kyouya, and it's absolutely awesome. ☆

I think you're right about Kyouya/Tamaki being more complex--which is why I can appreciate the pairing, if not ship it. PoT sounds like a really fun series, then! I always wondered why it was so popular, but I don't think I ever bothered to check up on it. Though it sounds like the fandom could be really susceptible to ship wars...?

Though, what you said about Hikaru/Haruhi -- I think that's exactly how I feel about Doumeki/Watanuki. I know there's all these canon suggestions, and I agree that Doumeki-->Watanuki, at least, is canon, but while I'm willing to admit it, it doesn't make me like it. I won't stop shipping Watanuki/Zashiki Warashi. D:

(THAT TOO. XD;)

I think I end up liking the loud and interfering types partly because they're so hated by fandom in general. I always think they have the most emotional honesty, whereas characters like Haruhi are always emotionally clueless as to their own feelings. And I love Meiling so. ♥ Tho Nakuru is my fav. CCS character for much of the same reasons. I have a lot more respect, I think, for these types of characters than for someone clueless and effortlessly charming, if only because they somehow seem more "real" to me.

copy/paste action ftw

What I meant is they ship canon het just because it's canon, and no other real reason. They think that the slash and minor het I ship (because I feel that it has chemistry and plausibility) is stupid simply because it isn't canon. I don't think canon het is stupid; I just have yet to run into a canon het pairing that I think has genuine chemistry in the same way my preferred, non-canon pairings do. I am perfectly okay with their ships, and power to them for sailing them. But I don't ship those pairings because I just don't like them as much, and I'm tired of them making fun of me for it.

Sorry. I could have phrased the secret better.

(Also, I DO think that Tamaki/Haruhi has chemistry. I just happen to think other pairings have more.)
