Even though my Mass Effect romances so far have been straight, I definitely agree with this secret so hard.

That said, I've always been a little shy on romancing Steve. He seems like he's still getting over his husband. Similarly that's why I felt weird about romancing Thane in ME2.

I enjoy Steve's romance arc more if I think of it as a rebound relationship between friends where both of them know that's all it is. I don't like the idea of Shep being his new ~true love~ when (if I recall correctly) Robert died less than a year ago?

Yeah, it's less weird if you think of it that way. And I don't know the timeline exactly, but his death I thought was pretty recent. Enough for the wound to be awfully fresh anyway.

I had the hardest time with Steve's romance when I played it recently. At the end of the game I was sobbing (admittedly, I have some issues that were at play there) because god damn it, Shepard promised to come back and now he never will, so soon after Steve got over losing Robert. It was well-written, but I was not prepared for it to be that gut-wrenching.
