THANK YOU. Especially re: 2. OP, English doesn't have case endings. Any way you slice it, using Old Norse words in English is going to be a pain. There's a bunch of ways to do it and they're all pretty annoying: Anglicize everything or inflect everything. Guess which one is going to be easier on the reader?

I've actually had that response mentally saved up for a while, because I *knew* I'd be able to use it eventually. Everything inflects in Old Norse, nothing inflects in English, and unless you're going to go around calling the movie 'Þórr', there's no point getting upset about it.

Also, by the time you get to things like the articled genitive plural, you've got (I think) 'jötnanna' as "of the Jotuns". That's not so much 'hard on the reader' as 'asking the reader to learn a (dead) foreign language'.

Hmm, I think from context I'd be able to work out "okay, that must be yet another version of 'Jotuns'," so I wouldn't mind it as a reader, but I'm not going to ask a writer to learn a bunch of declensions and inflections for their fanfic.
