Same here.

I know what's going on... I'm just not sure I like it. :(

(Anonymous) 2012-11-18 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
This is where I am, too. I feel obligated to keep watching, because I've watched since the beginning, but I'm not sure I like it anymore. I'm also disappointed that they didn't finish some of the story lines from the earlier seasons.

DA.

I'm still trying to figure out how exactly we got to where we are now.

I understand where we are. I remember where we were. I just have no idea how we transition between the two.

I used to love this show, but ever since the time skip I can't bring myself to care for it anymore...

My biggest problem is that I'm pretty sure they're gonna hit the reset button near the end. The significant death a few weeks ago and the changes to Peter make this even more likely, imo.

I lost interest when they started introducing the main plot. It was more fun to me when it was just the characters investigating weird shit.

Well, sometimes I still watch for Astrid, but I have no clue what's going on any more.

This. I really wish more shows were willing to just do monster/case-of-the-week episodes. PLENTY of shows do this and have 10+ year runs.

I would have started watching it for the episodic stuff if not for becoming aware what the main plot would become. I really hate parallel universe stuff.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-18 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly been feeling this way since S4. High hopes, and all we got was more convolution at the cost of everything we'd assumed from previous seasons. By this point, I have no idea who's even done what anymore.

[personal profile] adlanth 2012-11-18 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. It is a bit of a mess, and I wish Olivia and Walter could be the central characters again (not that I don't like Peter). Still love all three and Astrid very much though, so I'll keep watching to the end.

I've been so annoyed at this show since mid-season 3 and yet I am still watching because I used to love it SO much and I'm obsessive about being a completionist. It makes me sad, though, to think about how much promise this show used to have.

This is why I no longer watch it. :( I just don't care about it anymore.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-18 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing will ever compare to season 2 and season 3. Nothing. I still watch because I like aspects of it but it's a shadow of the show it once was...

I still watch and like it ok, but it is very frustrating. I hate to say it, but it might have been better off to end it last season (if they had done something else for 4x19 and without September's coda at the end). It at least leaves things on a much happier note for the extended Dunham/Bishop family.

So much of what the first 4 seasons built up was resolved, but the problem is that those things were what made us love the show to begin with. The case of the week format with continuing arcs about Massive Dynamic, the Redverse, the cortexiphan kids; barely any of it ties into what they're doing now other than "let's fight the Observers with X horrible old Fringe thing".

(Anonymous) 2012-11-19 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Me too, anon. I'm only still watching because I love the characters too much. I'm still pissed that they spent the first three seasons alluding to a war between the two universes, only to turn Walternate good in the time reset and "NOPE, IT WUZ OBSERVERS ALL ALONG LOLZ".

Maybe I've read a lot more esoteric sci fi than some people, but I'm having no problem at all following the plot. It's interesting, I actually had more objections to the first season because things seemed so randomly absurd. Now it's settled down and seems to be following it's own established rules.

It sounds like I'm in the minority too. I rather like this last season. It's like a chance to examine some of the mythology in a new way.

I liked last season a lot, too. It helped fill things in. And this season is, too. We are finding out about the Observers. I hope that they will eventually connect this season to the previous seasons and make it make sense why Peter was so necessary to their plans. Remember, the observer was supposed to have been there to observe the moment when Walternet saved Peter, but instead he distracted Walternet at the last moment causing him to miss his opportunity. And this lead to Walter to decide to go to the alternate universe and kidnap Peter in order to save him. Which caused the universes to begin colliding together. Which they finally managed to prevent at the end of last season.

All that was accident and not part of the Observers plan. Now we are getting to the Observers actual plan -- taking over the world and making it suit them -- but we haven't seen what it is that made Peter so important in the first place. Peter's made himself into an observer -- was this foretold? There is definitely something special about Peter from the beginning. Not only does shifting him from one universe to another cause the universes to start colliding, but even when he is written out of existence he is somehow able to claw his way back into reality -- and bring his reality along with him.

He seems like such a dude most of the time, but really there is something seriously not normal about him that has never been properly explained.

I agree with all of this! I keep hoping they will tie it back in with stuff that happened before, and make it all make sense. I actually had a bit of a crazy theory starting to develop with how things are going... but I guess I'll see in a few weeks. :b

I find this too but this is mainly because my PVR did not work and so I missed the end of the last season, which meant the timeskip took a lot of Wikipedia reading to even understand.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-19 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
I can follow it just fine, I only wish Olivia was the central character again like in previous seasons. ;___; I miss her badassery and her no-nonsene approach to things. It's like she's taken the backseat this season and I feel the show isn't the same as a result. She's one of my fave female tv characters. When the show first aired, I didn't realize how much I'd end up admiring her. I mean, I already miss her and the show isn't even over yet!

*no-nonsense, sorry.

If you have been watching and "have no idea what's going on" then your comprehension skills are a bit lacking. It's not that hard to follow.
