Wow, that's awful. I don't think you're acting entitled at all--this person made a promise to create something for you and you donated your own money in the understanding that you'd get something in return. The person you donated for is being a dick.

Can you bring this up with the auction mods? Maybe they can find someone else to fulfill your request, or at least get the person who failed to deliver banned from future events.

Not the OP, but I know that it's LONG past time that it would even make sense to try to talk to any mods. The auction was a big cross-fandom livejournal thing (I'm thinking Help for Haiti, maybe) - and I don't even know if the mods are even around anymore. The writer whose services I won hasn't signed up for anything similar (that I've seen).

I've just kind of accepted that I'm never going to see the story I donated for, and just be glad that the money at least went to a good cause (and that I didn't pay her for anything).

Shit, you just reminded me that I fulfilled one of my Help for Haiti lots but not the other one. Sorry whoever it was. I don't even have an lj anymore so I doubt I could find it. I feel bad about it because neither of the lots I won ever were ever fulfilled either.

No, it was art not fic. I actually started their piece like 5 times but while it was a series I knew inside and out, they happened to pick one of the two characters I don't feel confident about drawing, out of dozens and dozens of possible characters from this long-running series. And they wanted an animal in it, which I just can't do. I scrapped it each time.

Other lot was something unrelated to fandom.

I'm wondering if it might not be mine. I got SERIOUSLY into the story (about 30k or so) and then RL went to pot (two close relatives diagnosed with terminal illnesses pretty much at the same time) and fandom became coping time.

Still want to finish it, but need time to overhaul and basically rewrite the thing from the ground up and...RL has not improved much at all. Plan now is to find time to rewrite the thing, finish it (I want to make the fucker long now) and donate money to a charity as well because it's shitty of me, epically so, and , yeah, never ever going a fannish auction again. Bad enough RL fucks me over, it's not fair to be doing it to other people too.

I've not received other things in auctions, but a quick look at their journal tells you their struggling with RL stuff, and I really get that, people understand. So I'm sorry about your situation, and you shouldn't feel bad. Just let them know. It's the not knowing that sucks.
