I'm applying for disability/SSDI

(Anonymous) 2012-11-18 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
and I'm terrified I'm going to be rejected. I would be homeless if it weren't for my family, and my various neurological and psychiatric issues have made it that my longest stint at a job was six months, so it's not as though I can just run out, hand my resume around and get a job and suffer through it. Besides, the last time I tried to suffer through a job I nearly overdosed from the pain and the stress, so... kind of fuck that.

/rant Anyway. Does anyone have cheerful things to help me take my mind off of this? Because I won't hear back for at least two weeks.

Fair warning, in my state there is this basic assumption that you will be denied the first time. Doctors and even state workers warn you about this. It's dumb but true. Nearly everyone who applies is turned away the first time. So if you do get rejected, don't take it too harshly! Just turn around and take the next steps to apply again. There is a reason given for the denial, research countering that reason and stay strong and apply!

This tumblr is funny if you are familiar with the fandoms it parodies:

http://spitcastle.tumblr.com/

(The Legend of Korra, Harry Potter, Naruto, and various others.)

(The art in the first page is kind of wonky, but keep digging and there is some pretty good artwork.)

Also, I liked this let's play of spyro the dragon 2, where they show glitches and such. The commentary is very funny!

Also, the comics here are very funny and/or heartwarming:

http://nedroid.com/

If you're into slow-paced comics, I also recommend

http://gunnerkrigg.com/index2.php

Also, this person's let's plays are usually very funny (I haven't liked much his La-Mulana's ones, but I've liked very much the others).

And this guy's too:

And tons from here too:

There is also fanfiction too, if you're into that?

Cute Overload; nothing but cute animals (and the occasional cute human--but we're animals, too, so...) 24/7!

I know what you're going through. I just got rejected for disability for the second time. Hopefully the third time will be the charm, but I have my doubts. If you're in the US, at least, it's an immensely unfair system that will almost automatically reject you the first time you apply and force you to go through hell to get approved. /not bitter at all, heaven forbid.

Anyway, when I'm in desperate need of cheering up I like to scroll through ZooBorns for a while and squee over cute baby animals. The cheetah cubs are my favorites. ♥

Don't feel too bad if they deny you the first, or second time. They did it to me. I got one of those disability lawyers who take their pay out of your back-pay. I actually had to go to a court date, which was hard as hell because I have panic attacks when I leave the house. The judge looked at the opposing counsel and asked "Why are we here?" He approved my claim before we even finished the psych issues, we never touched the physical problems.

I freaked out when I was turned down the first time, and the second. I was convinced that because it had to go to court they would say no. My lawyer told me that most cases are turned down at least once now, know matter how deserving you are.

I'm not trying to worry you, I just want you to know that even if they turn you down there is still hope. And be prepared for a lot of doctor visits and a lot of waiting. *huggles* I hope it goes well for you!
