Good and less good.
Less good: today, a bunch of extremist assholes think it's okay to hit half-naked women, journalists and photographers in public and to throw homophobic and misogynistic slurs because they're against marriage equality. All under the eyes of a priest who was with them and just walked away when he saw the camera rolling.

Less good, but also funny: my country's equivalent to the GOP was supposed to elect its new boss today. By 2 p.m they were already accusing each other of fraud. Now they both claim they've won and it's such a gigantic mess that they're making the whole party look incompetent cheaters.

All good: Family day, did some homework, watched a good film.

Because the best way to make someone more sympathetic to your cause is to insult and assault them. :/ I'm all for marriage equality and I won't act like it doesn't bother me when others aren't, but that kind of behavior is so very wrong.

Oh, the attackers are against marriage equality and this isn't their first scandal (I wasn't sure if we're on the same page here, I just wanted to clarify). Earlier this year, they threw a fit and started praying on their knees in the street because they didn't like the way an artist represented Jesus in an exhibition.

...Now I feel like an idiot. I read that as the people being attacked were against marriage equality. *d'oh*

To attack anyone because their opinion differs from yours is a horrible, horrible thing. (And not very Christian, I'd think.) And I hadn't heard about the art thing, but that's sort of hilarious tbh. Not at all cool when people have to actually use that street, but the things that drive people to hysterics are sometimes ridiculous.

Ah, it's okay!

They're pretty ridiculous, but also pretty violent (think black masks and close-cropped hair, the ones more commonly associated with far-right groups with a dash of the Westboro Baptist Church - but Catholic). But they can cry all they want, the government is pretty set on passing this marriage equality law and it will happen, since they have a majority of deputies in the national assembly.

So, there's that, as a silver lining!

I didn't realize something like the Westboro Baptist Church existed for Catholics...and the way you speak of them makes it sound like they might be even worse. Again, I didn't know that was possible. That's more than a little disturbing...

But you're right, no matter what they do they can't stop progress, and one day their anti-gay opinions will be the minority. It always makes me insanely happy to think about that.

They do, but maybe not in the US (I'm European). They're mostly marginalised and rarely make the headlines, thankfully. They keep mostly to themselves, because they know they're falling on deaf ears and that whatever they have to say is just bigotry and hate speech, which exposes them to lawsuits. In other good news, they might get disbanded by the State since they've really crossed a line today (the footage is just unacceptable).

Thankfully, in my country, their anti-gay opinion is already the minority! *celebrates*
