i recently watched the latest episode of supernatural after having not watched it for several months. i didn't want to skip ahead but i was interested in where the story was heading, having read up on the plot in season 6 and 7, which i've yet to watch.

and it was so horrible???? like compared to the quality and general atmosphere of any given episode from earlier seasons, supernatural has gone way downhill. i was really disappointed with the acting too, which surprised me since i wasn't expecting that to change. maybe i just watched a shitty episode, but it was still painful.

The sad part is that so far the season 8 episodes have been decent compared to seasons 6 and 7.

If you've read the recaps/summaries and have a vague idea what happened, watching the episodes are really not required. But this season has a little bit of promise that it will actually build a decent season long arc.

Pretty much. It isn't great, but it isn't the horror that was 6 and 7. Then again, I think we'll have to see. I actually liked some of the early season 6 episodes, but then it went downhill fast and all the interesting arcs went nowhere.

It's SPN for me too. I'm more than months behind but I can't bring myself to catch up. (Probably will when the series ends.) I marathoned 6 but hated half of it (was pretty meh about the rest of it), and stopped watching early season 7. I never thought I'd do that because SPN used to be my favorite show, but...it happens.

That's when it was supposed to end, but it became a cash cow for the CW and now they can't let it die with dignity.

As far as I'm concerned, it did, and everything from S6 onwards is a whacky "what could have been" satirical spinoff that has nothing to do with anything. Except maybe some episodes, like the one with Ellen and Bobby, that was kind of worth it.

I've actually been all right with most of seasons 6-8, with the exception of the first half of season 6 (I stopped watching for a while because I wasn't into the plotline about the Alphas). But yeah, I don't think the show could have had a stronger ending than season 5. It felt like the end.
