Re: Popular fanon pairings you can't stand

Sherlock/John (the BBC version, not Holmes/Watson). It's mostly the shippers I can't stand, but the pairing itself disturbs me. I feel like people are completely missing everything about who Sherlock is. I just stay away from the entire fandom because there's really no other way to avoid that pairing.

I get that about the pairing. I just can't pair Sherlock with anyone.

Disturbs you how?

Because Sherlock has to be OOC to be paired with anyone. Also because it's frustrating to see so many people completely misunderstand so much about the character. IDK. Maybe it's just because I read ACD's Holmes works before I ever saw the show and it's coloring my perception of BC's character to think it's OOC to pair him with anyone.

There are plenty of people who read canon first and still ship them. So please don't assume that people who ship them "misunderstand" them because they're not as knowledgeable as you.

Sorry you inferred that. What I said was that it might be what colored MY perception. Regardless, I find pairing Sherlock with anyone as OOC. I'm aware it isn't the popular opinion (see topic) and I'm not trying to change anyone's opinion or put anyone down.

Ooooh... yes, I see what you mean. Sorry I read that the wrong way.

np. One of the things I like about this comm is that in discussions like this it's ok to disagree and the wank fairy usually stays away. Any other discussion, not so much.

I think it's kind of the opposite for me, actually. I've read a lot of the ACD stories (not all of them, admittedly), and as a teenager I really liked the idea of shipping Holmes even if I was aware that it wasn't exactly canonical. But I can't see BBC!Sherlock with anyone.
