Popular fanon pairings you can't stand

Inspired by secret #15 in today's post.

What are some fanon pairings that are popular within your given fandom(s), past or present, that drive you nuts? It can be rational or irrational dislike.

My top one would probably have to be Spock/Kirk (old and new versions). There's really no reason that I can find off the top of my head to justify my disdain for this one because I can totally see where people are coming from when they list off subtext for the pairing, but I can't stand it. Same with Sulu/Chekov, but to a much lesser degree.

My next would likely be Zuko/Katara, but honestly, a lot of my hate for that pairing comes from the fans. I came into the Avatar fandom kind of late (but before Korra, which I still have yet to watch), and seeing all the wars over which kid was fucking whom was tiring. The 'Zutarans' were just louder than everyone else, I guess, hence my hate.

I have more, but those top my list. So, F!S, which fanon pairs do you hate?

Loki/Tony. It's not the ship I can't stand (it could be a hot and entertaining, albeit unrealistic, hateship or Loki's-Randomly-Good-Now-Lets-Fuck-and-Snark fluffy ship). It's the rationale fans give it and the way that rationale utterly shits on both their characters (especially Tony's).

I actually like the potential of and sometimes read Sterek, but the way it's completely overtaken the Teen Wolf fandom is so disconcerting to me. Especially given how some fic writers treat other characters, and completely misjudge basic personality details of both Stiles and Derek, and disregard canon relationships.

Back in the Zutara shippers made up the largest base of shippers, which is why it was so vocal.

Personally I can't stand Borra. Especially when the shippers use fanon to say why it's 'totes' canon.

Sherlock/John (the BBC version, not Holmes/Watson). It's mostly the shippers I can't stand, but the pairing itself disturbs me. I feel like people are completely missing everything about who Sherlock is. I just stay away from the entire fandom because there's really no other way to avoid that pairing.

With regards to Spock/Kirk, I quite liked it in the original series but it turns me utterly cold in the reboot. I think it's the obvious distaste and disrespect they had for each other to start with. Yargh.

For me...John/Ronon from Stargate Atlantis made me feel really unhappy whenever I saw the pairing listed. I like warriors bonding and superior/subordinate pairings and healing cock tropes but I just couldn't handle it with Ronon! It made me feel ill. (I stopped watching mid-S4)

Dean/Castiel of Supernatural. I don't even agree with the usual "Dean needs a best friend who isn't related to him" argument. I just don't think Dean liked Castiel and I think I've been putting Castiel in the same box as Ronon. He put too much on Dean and the idea of sex on top of that squicks me out (I never watched past S5).

And finally Louis/Harry of One Direction. I just don't like it. The fandom does not help because they are horrible.

Oooh someone mentioned Sherlock and I remembered another one: Mystrade, ugh. I'm usually pretty cool about pairings where characters haven't even interacted in canon (and even crossover pairings, where they could never actually interact in canon) but for some reason Mystrade is nails on a chalkboard to me. Maybe because it's so obviously a reflection pairing of Sherlock/Watson and I'm kind meh on that to begin with, although less so because it's more understandable? Is it because while I have great respect for Mark Gatiss as an actor, I find Mycroft...not that interesting or attractive? Because I like Lestrade so much and resent that most of the fic with him in it has sneaky little Mystrade mentions? I DON'T KNOW, but I still hate it and fume like a petulant little fangirl about it sometimes because it's almost as common as Johnlock.

Well since no Kingdom Hearts parings are officially canon at this time I'll say Roxas/Namine it's just depressing to me, the canon between them just makes it look like they have no agency of their own. They're just stuck inside Sora and Kairi, and because Sora and Kairi are supposed to be in love, it's like Roxas and Namine have no choice but to be the same. :/

Lily/Snape, Snape loving Lily is canon, but it was never reciprocated, and she didn't fucking owe him a thing dammit.

Vincent/Sophia from Last Exile... I ran into some unfortunate fanfics that turned me off the paring forever. I can OT3 both with Alex though.

Claus/Sophia, no just no... Basically anyone but Alex with Sophia.

Joey/Seto from YGO DM, for reasons similar to those at least one other person articulated - it doesn't work well with either of their characters and it just really annoys me...

John/Dave from Homestuck, I just don't see them as anything other than bros. Also Eridan/Feferi in any quadrant other than caliginous because Eridan is a giant douche and and entitled ass towards her and she deserves so much better.

Also, Korra/Mako from LoK, just because...well...you'll understand when you watch it. If you don't like shipping drama, then I'd be wary, because the writers actually shoehorned some of it into canon. It was my least favorite thing about LoK, which I definitely enjoyed but it also definitely did not live up to its potential at all. And in the same vein, I can totally see why you would hate Zuko/Katara because of the fans...that's my ATLA OTP, but I didn't really get involved in the fandom and when I did poke a toe in people were being pretty obnoxious about it. =/

Hate would be too strong a word, but I don't care for Steve/Tony. Their dynamic in the movie does nothing for me (at least in the shippy sense). Most Loki ships too; idk why, but I'm just not interested if he isn't with Thor. (I like the fucked-up-ness.)

Dean/Castiel. This one partially because I don't like Castiel much in general, so I'm not rushing to ship him with anyone. I also never felt their connection was as strong as fandom made it out to be, so it's a case of 'I just don't feel it'.

Not sure how popular it is in the fandom, but Ed/Winry is one of the few ships I truly can't stand. I tend to not ship Ed with anyone because I can't stand the way Winry is always hitting or punching him.

Edited to add Rumple/Belle. I do sometimes like my ships fucked up, but both the show and fandom don't seem to realize how problematic it can be, and that bothers me. I feel like Belle should move on to someone else. (Maybe Ruby?)

Any ship where one of the characters obviously hates the other (or there's an obvious mutual hate) in canon...so the vast majority of hero/villain 'ships (Batman/Joker and Powerpuff/Rowdyruff (Z, not original series) for particular annoyances). It's especially aggravating when one doesn't have any particular redeeming traits that you can imagine the other overlooking whatever causes the hatred for. (See again, Joker or the Rowdyruff Boys.)

(I have one exception to that - Ema/Klavier from Apollo Justice...maybe the fact that Ema's 'hatred' of Klavier seems so fake....)

There is SO MUCH FIC of the former that it's just oversaturation for me.
And the shippers of both pairings have basically ruined any love I had for them.

I hear you about Spock/Kirk... but for different reasons. That pairing just REALLY grinds my gears right now, I'm not in the fandom but my friend won't shut up about them asjdgf ufu asdgfiq.

Can't think of any other fanon pairings that bug me right now.

Their whole fanon dynamic just really squicks me. Picard is way to good for a git like Q.

(ST:TNG is an odd old fandom, because it was so big in its day and there are way more male than female characters, but there was hardly any slash. Which rather counters the new narrative that fandom is for m/m.)

I really, really hate Yuuko/Watanuki from xxxHOLiC, to the extent that even glancing at fanworks featuring that pairing makes my mood sour for a few minutes. The fandom seems convinced that it's really romantic, but it seems kind of like pseudo-necrophilic-incest to me (since Yuuko acted like a mother/mentor to Watanuki).

Oooh, let's see. Well, Spike/Rarity seriously grosses me out, as does any other adult/child pairing. It's one thing if the kid character is aged up and it's done in a not-creepy way (which it seldom is), and even then it's kind of sketchy to me.

I also hate Zuko/Katara purely because of how obnoxious the fans were. On a similar note, Harry/Hermione.

Others that I'm not fond of (though I don't necessarily hate them) include Roxas/Namine, any Larxene pairing, Ashe/Balthier (unless Fran is there, too), Elliot/Parker and Aragorn/Legolas. There are more but damned if I can remember them right now.

I really dislike Thor/Loki in general but what pisses me off is stumbling upon cutesy/fluffy fanart or fanfic of it. Especially if they're married or have children and it's basically one happy family, just cause it so completely wrong and OOC. Argh, I hate it so much.

I dislike Tavros/Vriska in Homestuck. I like both characters, I just don't think they go together at all and I don't understand why so many people like the pairing.

Most Bruce Banner ships that aren't with Tony and are from the Avengers 'verse.

Because most of them feel pulled out of thin air (or pulled out of comic book pages, but seeing as how I've only read Planet Hulk...). Like, say... GammaFrost. I don't even think Loki and Bruce (BRUCE. Not the Hulk) exchanged a single line between each other.

I'll buy into BruceNatasha, even if I don't ship it. At least they spoke to each other and had development. I'll pass on GammaFrost and American Pi.

Back in the day when I was a wee little thing one the internet, I never understood why people liked 01x02. It is the present day, but I STILL DON'T UNDERSTAND the ship. Seriously, as a young kid, I could partial blame my love of 1XR, but I shipped 03x04, 01X05, 5xR, 5Xs and other stuff. Also, the fangirls in the day were crazy. Also, I dislike that they made either Relena or Hilde, sometime both into demonic she-witches that like making them miserable.

Shizaya. It's mostly thanks to the fans really and I don't LIKE Izaya. It didn't help my that BFF, when she was obsessed with DRRR, was a Shizaya, albeit a sane, shipper. Still, she talked SO much about it that after I watched the first few episodes, I never wanted to go and finish the series. (She kept bugging me if I saw the "signs" of their love.)

8059 - I don't get it. Honestly, I just can't see it.

Sephiroth/Cloud - I dislike the ship rational and irrational. Irrationally: So many fangirls up in arms if you can't see the love between them. They harass you if you don't agree. Rationally: The fangirls turn Tifa and Aerith into jealous bitches that want to keep Cloud to herself to abuse him. Then Sephiroth needs to save Cloud from their evil clutches! What? WTF? I like Tifa and Aerith. Stop making them OCC because you think they're in the way or because you hate them. Seriously, isn't it simple to say Tifa and Cloud drifted apart?

Pretty much all the pairings in my fandom are fanon that is never, ever in a million years going to be canon, so I pretty much live and let live. Nobody's fanon's much stupider and less likely than anybody else's.

That said, there's no need to make any of these characters so. Goddamn. OOC. to make the fanon pairings work. There just isn't. They'd work with the actual dudes juuuussst fine. So why, why must people butcher the characters, whyyyyyy.
