Gah, I never had any interest in Scrubs fandom, but let me guess - is this like so many other fandoms where one of the partners in the het canon relationship is hated because they "gets in the way of the ghei"?

Haters can go fart in a paper bag. Carla is a complex, awesome, three-dimensional character.

In this case, I don't think that's it (although that was why a lot of Cox/JD fans hated Elliot). There aren't really that many many JD/Turk shippers (or there weren't when I was around the fandom at least, which was a few years ago admittedly). I'm guessing a lot of them didn't like her because she was kind of bossy and liked to butt into other people's business. She also tended to come off as self righteous a lot of the time (I know she was called out on this at least once in-show. I remember that Jordan told her off in one episode). I actually liked her character despite these flaws (maybe even because of them) though. Plus, the rest of the cast also had flaws a plenty

Absolutely. It's what made her human.

(I could probably make my own secret about how I didn't bother poking around the Scrubs fandom because I grew to dislike JD quite a lot by the time I stopped letting family members blackmail me into watching the show (which was probably around Season 5 or 6).)

Yeah, I feel pretty much the same. Both Elliot and JD eventually just started annoying the hell out of me. I think the other characters also became less enjoyable to a certain extent as the show went on, but JD and Elliot were just about ruined for me

omg, is this another one of those fandoms like Psych, where they ignore what should obviously be the main pairing because there's a black guy in it, and go for some bizarro pair of white guys instead?

I am with you anon! I don't ship anyone in Psych, I love the buddy cop dynamic between them all too much to be able to get into it, but how people can ignore Gus/Shawn in favour of Shawn/Lassiter is beyond me.

Gus/Juliet is my main Psych ship. And even if I didn't I'd still want Gus in a better different relationship.

This dynamic specifically doesn't appeal to me because I don't always relate to Shawn and am not really interested in seeing him in a relationship with someone I feel lets him get away with too much already. And typically I slash Shawn's type with an older antagonistic authority figure... for reasons. That aren't entirely about spanking fic even. Though I have days where I don't like Shawn enough to ship him with anyone.

But I definitely think Gus/Shawn should be a way bigger ship in fandom. So I understand where some of your bewilderment comes from.

I didn't ship Shawn/Gus at first because I thought Gus deserved better. And then I realised that Shawn felt that way too.

I was much the same way actually; and I think as the series went on I think their relationship got a lot more reciprocal. I can definitely understand not shipping Gus/Shawn at all, I didn't even see it in the earlier seasons.

I just can't understand ignoring Gus/Shawn altogether in favour of Shawn/Lassiter. Fandom is a weird place sometimes.

Yeah. It doesn't surprise me, sadly, because I've seen it in pretty much every fandom, but it's disappointing.
