If one wanted to get into the fandom, where would be a good place to start?

Bonus points - what if one were looking for het or gen?

I think the part of the fandom on livejournal is either really slow or nearly dead. It's been a few months since the main communities have not updated at all.

It's pretty active on tumblr right now. Same thing on ff.net. AO3 also have some fics from time to time.

As for het and gen, it depends. If you ship Soul/Maka, you can find stuff everywhere since it's basically 80% of the fandom... Other meïster/weapon ships are also generally well liked.
I know that there is some gen but I'm afraid it can sometimes be a little burried under all the shipping and more or less easy to find depending on your favorite characters/what you want to read or see.
If you like long fics, there's quite a lot of them (but most include pairings).

She reads japanese and posts stuff about goodies and news concerning Soul Eater. She also answers questions about the fandom, translation stuff and she reblog fanarts and analysis on Soul Eater.

Thanks! And wow, have I been looking in the wrong places, because all I've seen so far is slash and I'm just not feeling it in this fandom. I will look around some more!

There's a pretty active Soul/Maka forum called Grigori Wings. A quick Google should pull it up.
